Building a Technological Risk Framework for Energy Companies
Engineering First
Over the past weeks, I've been developing a structured, engineering-focused framework to assess technological risk in energy companies.
This isn't an ESG checklist. It's not a generic cyber score. It's a full operational risk model grounded in how real energy infrastructure actually works.
What the framework evaluates
The model assesses technological exposure across six core domains:
01
OT Infrastructure & Reliability
02
Cyber-Physical (IT/OT) Risk
03
Obsolescence & Vendor Risk
04
System Complexity & Integration
05
Monitoring & Predictive Capability
06
Governance & Organizational Risk
Each domain is scored using structured engineering criteria, normalized to a 0–100 index, and weighted to reflect today's industry realities in the U.S. energy sector.
The result: a transparent, auditable Technological Risk Index designed for engineers first.
